A leprechaun is a mythical creature from Irish folklore, usually depicted as a small, mischievous, and solitary being who is skilled at shoemaking. They are often portrayed wearing green clothing and a hat, and are said to possess a pot of gold which they hide at the end of a rainbow. According to legend, if a human catches a leprechaun, the leprechaun will grant them three wishes in exchange for their release. Leprechauns are often associated with St. Patrick's Day and other Irish-themed celebrations, and have become a popular symbol of Irish culture in the United States and around the world. In modern popular culture, leprechauns are sometimes depicted as more malevolent or dangerous than their traditional folklore counterparts, such as in the horror movie franchise "Leprechaun".
